Handmade Monday #375

Hi everyone and welcome to another Handmade Monday.

Not a great photo, it’s just a screen shot from a video, but I made a dress on Saturday and am seeking advice from my sewing friends (and non sewing friends too of course) over on Instagram. It’s the Benning Dress from Seamwork made from an old duvet cover than a friend gave me last week. It was a super quick make, it’s an easy pattern but I had a couple of quandaries with it so feel free to give me your thoughts!

1) Did I make it too long? I confess that as I was printing the pattern at home I only printed the pages with the top, facing and pocket pieces and I guesstimated the rectangles that make up the main skirt and the frill.

2) The fabric has an ombre effect, on the duvet cover it went from light grey at the top to black at the bottom. I used the darkest fabric for the dress top and frill and then a more ombre section for the main skirt. I’m not sure it shows especially well though and maybe it just looks a bit faded in the centre?

I was also contemplating adding some top stitching in a bright colour, maybe a hot highlighter pen pink on the hems, sleeve, round the neck and above each line of gathers. Over on Instagram people have suggested maybe a pink trim like a ric rac or even a pom pom trim,or maybe some embroidery, what do you think?

Let’s check out the features from last week’s Handmade Monday.

  • Remember if you want to pin any of these ideas please make sure you click through via the photo to the original project.

These little pretzel daisy snacks from Walking on Sunshine Recipes are fun, easy to make too.

I do love this coffee filter umbrella craft from Darcy and Brian, you all know how much us Brits love to talk about the weather!

Wendy from My French Twist has made this amazing patchwork skirt from gorgeous Amy Butler fabric, isn’t it a beauty? It reminded me of some of the patchwork skirts in the patchwork book my grandma gave me but with a modern twist.

Congratulations to you all There is a "YAY I was featured" button over here if you want to add one to your blog.

A like on social media, a comment or share is an easy way for us all to help to support one another so please do take a moment to visit some of the other projects linked up this week. It’s not mandatory to be able to join in here, there’s no easy way to check if you did but it costs nothing but a few minutes of your time and is just a nice thing to do!

The rules for Handmade Monday are very simple:

  • Did you make it? Yes - then yay! We'd love to see it

  • Add the link to a specific post, not your main blog url

  • You can link up to 3 posts each week but try to make sure it's not something that you've shared here before

  • Mingle - visit some other links - comment - share - be social

HANDMADE MONDAY IS NOT A PLACE FOR SELLING SO NO LINKS TO ETSY OR OTHER SELLING PAGES, THEY WILL ALWAYS BE REMOVED. THANKS

If you are not sure of anything more details can be found here.

At Handmade Monday the links are shown in a random order so it’ll look different each time you pop by.
