Handmade Monday #261

Well I don’t know about you but the weeks are flying by here! I can’t quite believe it’s a week since the last Handmade Monday! I hope you’ve managed to fit some craft time in this past week.

I’ve been having a go at Kawandi quilting. I first saw this technique when I selected the lovely table runner from Chez Vies as a feature on Handmade Monday #257. You can read about Elvira’s Kawandi over at Chez Vies and there is a little more information about it online. It’s a little like Kantha or Boro in that it’s worked by hand with a running stitch but Kawandi is worked from the outside in and fabric scraps are added randomly as you go so there is very little pre planning. I’ve opted for a table runner too as it seemed like a good “first attempt” size thing to make, manageable on my lap as I watch tv too!

It was my first time hosting the Pinterest Challenge this week too. The Pinterest challenge is all about looking through your Pinterest boards and finding a project you’ve always wanted to actually try and making it happen. Now we’ve added a sustainable element to it too so we are all looking to bring an element of crafting in a more environmentally conscious way. That might be thrifting, upcycling or something as simple as just using what we already have instead of always rushing out to buy more stuff.

For January we had a theme of “Shopping my Stash” so I used my stash of acrylic paints to turn some croks from Christmas and New Year into sweet little fairy houses.

If any craft bloggers are reading and would like to join the Sustainable Pinterest Challenge just let me know and I’ll get all the details to you.

Now here are the features from last week’s Handmade Monday, just click through on the photos to see the original posts -

  • Please remember if you want to pin any of these ideas please make sure you click through via the photo to the original project.

White House Crafts has this utterly adorable birthday cake gift box idea.

Maya from The Little Treasures has come up with yet another beautiful crochet idea, these little fairy baby cocoons. Perfect for a new baby photoshoot or maybe for those people who have those super realistic looking dolls.

Me and My Inklings have a really sweet Valentine idea - snowman soup! Ideal if it’s usually still pretty cold and snowy in your part of the world in early February.

Congratulations to you all. There is a "YAY I was featured" button over here if you want to add one to your blog. I think you should - you deserve it!!!

Please do take a moment to visit some of the other projects linked up this week. Share some of your favourites on your social media maybe and leave a nice comment or two.

Supporting one another with a like or share isn’t too much to ask right? And every little helps :-)

The rules for Handmade Monday are very simple:

  • Did you make it? Yes - then yay! We'd love to see it

  • Add the link to a specific post, not your main blog url

  • You can link up to 3 posts each week but try to make sure it's not something that you've shared here before

  • Mingle - visit some other links - comment - share - be social

CAN I REMIND EVERYONE THAT HANDMADE MONDAY IS NOT A PLACE FOR SELLING SO NO LINKS TO ETSY OR OTHER SELLING PAGES, THEY WILL ALWAYS BE REMOVED. THANKS

If you are not sure of anything more details can be found here
