Snarky Cross Stitch Design Book Giveaway
I’ve got a fun post for you today, I’ve teamed up with the talented people who created A Bitch in Time - 30 snarcastic stitches for you to stab to bring you a giveaway.
I have been gifted a digital copy of the book A Bitch in Time - 30 snarcastic stitches for you to stab to review and have 2 PDF download copies to giveaway. Whoop whoop!
Subversive cross stitch is a massive trend, it’s been around for a while now and people’s designs and ideas just seem to be getting better and better. Often it’s very traditional looking designs with words you wouldn’t traditionally expect.
The book is chock a block with 30 cross stitch designs, of varying levels of sarcasm and offensiveness. This is a book for adults not kids! Some of the designs follow the ‘look traditional but with snarky words’ idea but others in the book are more modern styles. There is something for everyone as long as everyone is sarcastic, with a slightly warped sense of humour and not often offended! Because we are normally very family friendly here at Sum of their Stories I’ve picked out a design which is one of the tamer ones from the book to try out and showcase for you.
I have an uber sarcastic friend who will be getting this finished embroidery for their birthday next year - if you are one of my sarcastic friends you may think this is for you… but are you my MOST sarcastic friend? You’ll just have to wait and find out I suppose! Maybe enter the giveaway anyway just in case it’s not you !!!
The book is well set out, each of the 30 designs is showcased in a picture showing what it looks like stitched, then there is a clear colour chart for each design. The larger designs go over 2 pages, but most are on a single page. There is a suggested DMC thread colour palette for each design but you can of course stitch the designs in any threads you choose. All the designs have a difficulty level, saying if they are recommended for beginners or intermediate stitchers and the size the design will turn out on 14 count aida is there for you too. Plus there is a really comprehensive section at the back with all the information you need to create a beautiful cross stitch masterpiece. The basics on how to cross stitch, what equipment you need, how to finish your work and frame it etc.
If you can’t wait for the giveaway then the book is available from amazon here (affiliate link) or as a PDF download from Etsy here (affiliate link)
I took the chance to use up some embroidery threads for my stash so I varied the colours from those suggested in the book. I’m really pleased with the finished result. I used a 28 count evenweave fabric rather than aida but only because that is what I already had. The finished size is pretty much spot on with the size the book said it would be too. It took me 3 evenings of stitching whilst watching tv to work up this little design. Because my copy of the book is a pdf it was really easy to only print the page I needed, the chart.
