15 Brilliant Free Knit and Crochet Washcloth Patterns

I love handmade cotton wash cloths, they are a joy to use and make such lovely presents. You can wrap one or two around a bar of handmade soap or a fancy cleanser and you have a perfect little gift.
These patterns would double as a handmade dishcloth too, I’ve not looked back since I made a whole bunch of C2C crochet dishcloths a few years ago, I’ve found them just so much better than store bought cloths in every way.
They are a great way to use leftover bit of cotton yarn so can be a wonderful stash buster. Plus they are perfect for trying out new stitches and techniques.

These spiral design cloths from Winding Road Crochet are just SO pretty, I think it's the colours she's chosen. Don't they just look lovely together? It’s crochet but it kind of looks more like knit - cool eh?
I love C2C crochet, it works up so quickly and the texture is lovely. This C2C washcloth is a great basic pattern from Eye Love Knots.
For Tunisian Crochet lovers this pretty sampler cloth would be a quick make, ideal for beginners too. It's from Petals to Picot.

Free Knitted Washcloth patterns:
All about Sprout have several lovely washcloth patterns, my favourite is this Roman Stripe knitted facecloth.
Aren’t these leaf shaped knitted cloths fun? They are from Tricksy and there are 2 different versions to choose from.
If you like trying new stitches a washcloth makes a great thing to practice on, this Daisy stitch cloth from Nourish and Nestle is so pretty.
Julie Measures has a lovely, and super simple, Mitred Square cloth pattern. Honestly you won't believe how simple this is to do, it looks so much more complicated than it is.
Petals to Picot has this lovely basket weave free knit pattern, the texture it creates is wonderful.
This knitted rubber duck design is SO cute, it's by Daisy & Storm.
Have you tried intarsia knitting? This sweet heart washcloth could be a great little project to give it a go. It's from Knitting and so on.
Look at this fabulous textured knit cloths from The Soccer Mom Blog, the pattern couldn’t be much simpler either - good news!
I love the shape of these pretty “Almost Lost” washcloths. The pattern is now only available to buy from Simply Notable on Ravelry but there is a full step by step photo tutorial on you tube here which it easy to follow.
